Community Acupuncture

close up acupuncture treatment

Community acupuncture is a unique collective healing experience. Your treatment will take place in our studio, on a massage table or zero gravity chair. While other patients are in the same room and being treated at the same time as you are, they are separated by dividers. Calming music and white noise create a tranquil, relaxing atmosphere.

Benefits of Community Acupuncture

Community acupuncture allows more people to access needed treatment by removing cost barriers. Treatment in a group setting is more affordable than private acupuncture sessions, but just as effective. By lowering the cost of treatment, we make it possible for our patients to come in for acupuncture multiple times per week, which often leads to better outcomes.

In China, where acupuncture originated, community acupuncture is the norm. The act of healing as a collective can be quite powerful. Healthcare in our country is rarely rooted in the community; this can create feelings of isolation and lack of support. Community acupuncture seeks to radically change this by allowing participants to forge a deep sense of connection with each other.

This connection isn’t just a social benefit; it’s spiritual and psychological as well. Time and time again, research shows that having a support network leads to better overall health and decreased stress. Feeling supported matters, particularly when it comes to healing.

Conditions That Can Be Treated With Community Acupuncture

Community acupuncture is an effective treatment for:

  • Headaches
  • Allergies
  • Colds
  • Stress
  • Digestive issues
  • Menstrual issues
  • Neuropathic conditions
  • Chronic inflammatory conditions
  • Pain
  • Insomnia
  • Skin disorders

The ultimate goal of acupuncture is to bring the body back into balance, as a balanced body is a healthy body. Because of this, acupuncture is also well-suited as a supplemental treatment for a wide range of illnesses and conditions and can be used in conjunction with other therapies.

What to Expect During Community Acupuncture Treatment

We ask that you turn off your phone and avoid speaking loudly out of respect for your fellow participants and acupuncturists. Although you will be sharing space in the healing studio with other patients, your treatment will be individualized and tailored to your specific needs.

Community acupuncture utilizes acupuncture points on the scalp, arms, and knees to treat conditions affecting other parts of the body, so you’ll remain fully clothed during treatment. During your first session, you will have a private intake to discuss your concerns and medical conditions with your acupuncturist. Please plan on arriving at least 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment in order to complete our new patient paperwork or download these forms, fill them out at home, and bring them with you to your session.

Each session lasts about 20 minutes. Acupuncture treatments are best received when patients are neither too full nor too hungry, so we recommend eating a small meal a few hours prior to your scheduled session. Wear comfortable clothes that you can roll up to your elbows and knees, as these will be the areas where we insert acupuncture needles for treatment.
